NewEra Inc. is seeking a Head of Applied AI to turn AI ambition into working systems. This role owns the path from identifying high-value AI opportunities to building, deploying, and scaling solutions that deliver measurable business outcomes. You will work across Product, Engineering, and Business teams to move AI from experimentation into production. This is not a research role or a demo-builder role — you are here to identify the right problems, choose the right technical approach, and make AI work reliably in the real world.

- Define and execute NewEra's applied AI roadmap, aligned with company strategy, product priorities, and business objectives
- Identify opportunities where AI can materially improve customer experience, operational efficiency, decision-making, or product capabilities
- Evaluate potential initiatives on business value, technical feasibility, cost, risk, and time to impact
- Establish a prioritised AI opportunity pipeline with clear owners, expected outcomes, resource requirements, and success measures
- Lead the design and delivery of AI-powered solutions from problem definition and prototyping through production deployment and continuous improvement
- Select appropriate approaches including LLM applications, RAG, AI agents, traditional ML, and third-party AI services
- Make pragmatic build-versus-buy decisions balancing performance, cost, speed, maintainability, and vendor dependency
- Establish reusable components, patterns, and technical standards that allow teams to build AI capabilities efficiently
- Own the transition from successful experiments to production-ready AI systems that deliver sustained value
- Establish standards for evaluation, testing, observability, latency, reliability, scalability, and cost management
- Monitor production performance and continuously improve systems based on user feedback and operational data
- Identify and implement AI use cases that improve productivity across Engineering, Product, Operations, Customer Support, and other functions
- Work with functional leaders to redesign workflows around AI capabilities rather than simply layering tools onto existing processes
- Define data requirements and evaluation methodology needed to build reliable AI solutions
- Establish repeatable evaluation frameworks using relevant quality metrics, benchmark datasets, and real-world feedback
- Ensure AI implementations follow appropriate standards for data privacy, security, access control, and responsible use
- Build and lead the applied AI function: define team structure, hiring priorities, technical responsibilities, and delivery standards
- Set technical direction for applied AI while enabling engineers and product teams to contribute effectively
- Develop a culture of experimentation with clear success criteria, fast feedback loops, and disciplined production delivery
- Establish clear success metrics for AI initiatives before development begins
- Track performance of deployed solutions against agreed business and technical outcomes
- Communicate trade-offs, delivery risks, resource needs, and results clearly to executive stakeholders
- Maintain visibility into AI infrastructure costs, model usage, vendor spend, and financial performance of major initiatives

- 8+ years of experience in AI/ML, software engineering, data science, or a closely related technical field, with substantial hands-on experience delivering AI-powered solutions
- Demonstrated experience taking AI systems from problem definition and prototyping into production and ongoing operation
- Strong understanding of modern AI technologies: LLMs, prompt engineering, RAG, AI agents, model evaluation, and AI application architecture
- Solid software engineering fundamentals: APIs, system design, data pipelines, testing, deployment, and production monitoring
- Experience evaluating AI solution quality, reliability, latency, and cost, and making trade-offs based on real-world constraints
- Proven ability to translate ambiguous business problems into technically feasible solutions with measurable outcomes
- Experience leading cross-functional initiatives and influencing senior stakeholders across Product, Engineering, and Business
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to communicate complex technical concepts clearly to non-technical audiences
- Working proficiency in English for technical discussions, documentation, and cross-functional collaboration
